Last updated at 10:52, Monday, 15 October 2012
Police have made six arrests after a man was stabbed to death early yesterday (Sunday).
Police and ambulance services were called to an address in Arnside Road, Harraby, Carlisle, just after 6am.
They were responding to reports that a man in his thirties had been stabbed in the street outside his home.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.
Officers have identified him as Piotr Kulinski, aged 32, who was living in Carlisle but originated from Poland.
They made four arrests in Carlisle yesterday afternoon in connection with the killing.
Three men, two aged 23 and one aged 30, were arrested on suspicion of murder. A 26-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. All are of Polish nationality.
They remain in custody today.
Two other men were arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of murder. They are aged 30 and 44.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Duhig, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our enquiries are very much still active and we appeal to members of the public, especially those from the Polish community to contact us if they have any information about what led up to this attack.
“We understand that there maybe reservations about speaking to the police but I would like to offer reassurance we will do everything we can to protect and support any person who helps with this enquiry.”
Police cordoned off the cul-de-sac off Arnside Road, where the man died, to allow forensic specialists to gather evidence.
Mr Kulinski’s family have been informed and are being supported by family liaison officers.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact the force on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
