Flood alerts issued for Cumbrian rivers

The Environment Agency has issued three flood alerts this morning after a night of heavy rain.

They are for:

  • the Lower River Eden and its tributaries, from its confluence with the River Irthing through Crosby-on-Eden and Carlisle to the Solway Firth at Rockcliffe;
  • the River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater
  • the rivers Kent and Bela

Flooding caused disruptions to train journeys between Oxenholme and Penrith yesterday.

Heavy rain led to delays, affecting passengers between Preston and Carlisle last night.

There were also reports of problems with flooding on some roads in the south of the county.
