Five-car hailstorm crash shuts stretch of M6

All three lanes on a stretch of the M6 in Cumbria were closed after five cars collided during a hailstorm.
The northbound carriageway of the motorway at Lowgill between Junction 37 and Junction 38 near Tebay was shut at about 9.40pm last night.
Lane closures remained in place for about two hours while an investigation into the cause of the collision was launched and the vehicles involved recovered.
Nobody was trapped in their vehicles and a police spokesman said there had been “slight injuries”.
In two separate weekend incidents on the M6 in Cumbria a BMW skidded on ice, and a car was left facing the wrong way on the hard shoulder.
Cumbria Police has urged motorists to ‘exercise extreme caution in very hazardous conditions’ when travelling around the county.
