The 16ft vessel Sea Spray issued a mayday distress call around 9pm after her engine failed. With the anchor failing to hold, she was drifting aimlessly.

Whitehaven Coastguard was involved in the rescue operation while the wind-farm survey vessel Fleur de Lys also responded and came alongside to offer assistance. Sea Spray was towed into Whitehaven by 10pm with all four people on board safe and well.
