First look at Carlisle's new Richard Rose Central Academy

This is the first sight of how Carlisle’s £30m central academy could look.

Have your say

i am in year nine at the school and i think that open plan is a big mistake as in our classes now you can hear the next class and it will be much worse at the new build also there seems to be a lot of window which may get smashed.

all looks very smart but feel that all that open plan has wasted valuable space, my daughter attends richard rose and has informed me of a lot of bullying and violence that goes on in school, i dont think all those balconys are a good idea how long before a child falls of is pushed off.

We are in year 11 we are sitting in maths at this very moment, with no teacher, the school needs to be more organised. its basically not good for our education.

I am in the last year of school at the RRA and our exams are coming up. This year we have had nothing but trouble with the numerous fights and fire alarms. Y11's are having to prepare themselves for their exams because teachers are leaving due to stress and we constantly have supply teachers that cannot control a class. Frankly our exam results are going to suffer. The whole idea is a total waste of time and is causing nothing but grief.

we go the the central academy and we've had nothing but trouble since we went , theres been several fights , several fire alarms and our lessons are constenly disrupted and we often have supply teachers which often means that they often do not give correct work and this is ruining our education we were in a lesson the other day and we got a crossword in maths! (nothing to do with maths at all!).In one of our lesson we had a supply teacher and there was no work set for us which meant us playing games online for 1 hour!
the new academy building is just asking for trouble and the fact that the walls are glass separting the classrooms will make lessons disrupted due to noise.
You really need to get this academy organised.

We would defintely move schools given the choice but we dont

I attended Bishop Goodwin School in the 1970's and that was an open plan school, by the time my own children attended in the 1990's all the classrooms had been enclosed, as they had discovered through experience, that the open plan didn't work and they couldn't keep track of their students.
It seems a complete lack of foresight to go ahead with this plan when hindsight and current experience, of keeping students in school, should show that it is not going to be a feasible option. I hope a bit of common sense prevails!

I have just read the article titled 'Anger over Carlisle academy meeting 'snub'.
This whole thing has been decided upon without agreement of everyone affected, so why is it not surprising that the neighbourhood has not been informed. The only people who can actually put a stop to this now are the planning officials.
Lets just hope that they can see how unsuitable open plan classrooms will be and send the architects back to the drawing board,or better still, refuse planning permission and force an end to this whole idea.

i think it is stupid the should have left the schools the way they were and i think it is mad havin open class rooms, it will be very noisy xx :(

what is the point in nice school when the kids will just wreck it like they have at the Harraby site they should put the schools back as they where and as for open class rooms what about when they are kicking off all of the kids will suffer.
