Firefighters tackle house fire near Penrith

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a house near Penrith in the early hours this morning.

Crews from Lazonby and Penrith were called to the fire at a detached house in Great Salkeld at around 6.30am.

The blaze was confined to the ground floor, which was heavily smoke logged, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and covering jet to tackle the flames.

Crews then used a pump and small hand tools to remove water from the cellar.

I would have used the Sunday service

Our rail services are way behind most other countries. No wonder we rely so heavily on cars
