Fell runner airlifted from Scafell Pike after fall

A fell runner was airlifted to hospital with multiple injuries after falling 100 ft on Scafell Pike.

It happened at 3.10pm yesterday afternoon.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team, the Great North Air Ambulance and an RAF Sea King helicopter attended.

The Pride of Cumbria’s doctor and paramedic initially needed assistance to reach the injured man, in his 40s and from the Leeds area.

He was treated at the scene before being winched by the RAF Sea King.

This transported him to the valley floor where the Pride of Cumbria was waiting.

He was then flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries. His condition was said to be stable on arrival.
