A man who had a smile for everyone was one of the two lorry drivers killed in a crash on the M6 motorway in Cumbria.

Alan 'Jossy' Walmsley, 62, of Longridge, Preston, was driving a SPAR lorry when it was involved in an eight-vehicle collision at 8.15am on Monday between junctions 35 and 36.

Another lorry driver - Michael Raymond Proctor, 22, of Southport - was also killed.

A family statement said Mr Walmsley was a devoted husband to Jacqs for 43 years and he was "her soul mate, best friend, her rock and much more."

“Alan lived life to the full. He had a smile for everyone and always tried to help people even if that meant he went without. He always saw the best in everyone.

"He loved his job, had worked for local companies all his life and when he wasn’t working weekends and busy with football, he could be found on his allotment with his various stock chickens and goats," it added.

A keen fundraiser, Mr Walmsley played football for Ribchester until an injury ended his career and he turned to management. He was also secretary of Longridge United, now AFC Longridge.

Mr Walmsley - whose other hobbies included fishing - also leaves sons Jay and Ian, his daughter Donna, daughter-in-law Pam and four grandchildren as well as his dad, three brothers and a sister.
