Families learn how to survive the great outdoors

FAMILIES got to learn more about the great outdoors at two bushcraft sessions.

The sessions were held in Keswick as part of the Heritage Lottery-funded Derwentwater Foreshore Project.

Families were taught how to build a shelter, use traditional fire-lighting techniques, and forage from trees and plants without leaving any trace.

The sessions were run by Keswick Canoe and Bushcraft on the shores of Derwentwater and in nearby woodland behind the Theatre by the Lake.

Naomi Hewitt, project co-ordinator said: “All the groups of families have really enjoyed it and trying out the fire-lighting was a particular highlight, especially for the younger children.

“We want people to enjoy the outdoors and understand a bit about the area,” added Naomi.
