North Cumbria road closed for fallen tree reopens

The A595 at Jenkin Cross, Wigton, has reopened.

It was closed to traffic after a tree was blown down onto it by high winds. The closed stretch was between Thurrsby roundabout and the junction with the B5305.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area and use the A596 while the tree was cleared. The stretch was shut for just over three hours from around 3pm to just after 6pm.

Motorists have also been urged to drive carefully at the A594 at Dovenby due to flooding and standing water there. A police spokeswoman said the road is passable.
