Estate agent first to straddle England-Scotland border

Solicitor and estate agency firm Bell Park Kerridge (BPK) has become the first in the area to offer services on both sides of the border.

The company has just opened a new office in Dumfries as part of a key expansion.

Private client director Duncan Carter said the legal differences between England and Scotland can cause problems for clients locally.

He explained: “We have clients who operate on both sides of the border but the problem is that solicitors locally normally can’t act in Scotland, because the laws are different.

“With us being so close to the border it makes sense.

“If someone wanted to move from Scotland to Carlisle, or vice-versa, we can now deal with both sides of the transaction.”

The firm has recruited an expert from Glasgow to head the new office, in Church Crescent.
