A 30-year-old man refused to leave the A&E department at the Cumberland Infirmary because he was drunk and confused.
Michael Wilson, of Alexander Street, off London Road, in Carlisle was disruptive and abusive to staff in the hospital and police were called, Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard.
When the officers arrived, he started to swear at them and they had to take hold of him to help him stand up as he was drunk.
Wilson admitted being drunk and disorderly on January 7.
He said he had been taken from Botchergate to the hospital unconscious and was confused when he woke up.
“I just panicked,” he said.
He said he was now getting help for his drinking.
Wilson was fined £130 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
