Driver has lucky escape after milk tanker overturns

A milk tanker driver had a lucky escape after his vehicle overturned on the A6 near Penrith.

Police were alerted to the accident just after 2am today by a call from a concerned member of the public.

It happened at the Stoneybeck roundabout.

The driver - described as "walking wounded" - was checked over by paramedics at the scene.

The tanker's load of 14,500 litres of milk did not leak but it was emptied into another tanker and removed by the company responsible by 4am.

The road was blocked for several hours but cleared just before 11.30am today.

Police urged witnesses who may have seen the accident to get in touch, calling 101.
