Driver grabbed by throat in road rage incident in Cumbria

A driver was grabbed by the throat by another motorist in a suspected road rage incident near Brough.

The incident happened at around 4pm on Friday, on the eastbound entry slip road from the A685 on to the A66.

Police said the 36-year-old driver of a red Skoda Fabia car was the victim of an attack which appeared to involve two other road users. They said that a white Yamaha motorbike forced the Skoda to stop by coming to a halt in front of it. When the Skoda driver put his head out of the window to speak to the motorcyclist he was grabbed by the throat by the driver of a third vehicle, a silver Renault Megane, which had pulled in behind his car.

Police said that the motorcyclist, an “older male” and the Megane driver, said to be aged in his 30s, appeared to know each other and be driving in convoy.

All three drivers may have travelled from Tebay on the A685 before turning onto the A66.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or similar events on the A685 at around the same time, is asked to call Cumbria police on 101.
