Deadline to register for Dalston by-election vote

Residents living in the Dalston ward have until next Wednesday to register to vote, or apply for a postal vote, for the forthcoming by-election.

It is the city’s second by-election and comes just weeks after Labour’s Tom Dodd was successful in becoming the authority’s newest councillor by holding the Yewdale ward following the death of former leader Joe Hendry.

The poll has been called because Councillor Nicola Clarke, who represented the Dalston ward, is moving away from the area.

Electors who are unable to cast their vote in person on the day of the Carlisle City Council poll – Thursday October 17 – are being urged to contact the authority’s Electoral Registration section before the deadline or miss out on their chance to vote.

Applications to vote by proxy must be in by 5pm on Wednesday, October 9.

Residents can request application forms by contacting (01228) 817555 or 01228 817556 or by sending an email to elections@carlisle.gov.uk
