Cyclist threatened by motorist wielding metal bar

Police in north Cumbria are hunting for a motorist who threatened a cyclist with a metal bar.

The terrifying confrontation happened in Dalson Road near to Carlisle's Pirelli tyre factory yesterday.

A Cumbria police spokesman said they were called at 1.20pm.

The caller reported a male cyclist being threatened by another man, who was driving a red hatchback car.

The motorist had stopped in front of the cyclist, got out of his car armed with the metal bar, and then threatened the cyclist before driving off towards Carlisle city centre.

The spokeswoman said: "Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at this time and may have witnessed this incident. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a red Ford Fiesta in the area at this time.

"Anyone with information should call PC 2192 Hutcheson on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
