Cumbrian town councillors agree to almost double spending

Town councillors in Workington have defended a decision to increase their annual budget by a whopping 89 per cent, insisting that the money will be well spent.

Have your say

Funny how the times and star had to look as far as silloth and wigton to get some comments! Workington still pays half of what people in silloth do - what does david wilson think of that? If it creates jobs and a bit of investment in town Im all for it

I sent an email to the council two days ago asking for information, and they haven't replied as yet. Is there a list of Town Councillors on the Internet?

Let me get this straight... Increasing their budget by £136,000 so they can employ their clerk full-time and a.n.other. With a bit more so they can set up a committee to look at arranging cultural and sporting events? Unbelievable!!!!

Empire building at it's best. Where is the website for Workington Town councillors? Where is the list of Workington Town councillors? Where is the accounts and reports of Workington Town council? Mr Humes should take a look at the Keswick Town council website to see how a council should be run.

Well I do object to any increase in the council Tax, its almost the last straw that broke the camel's back, how much can people take, everything has gone up for example the Electric, water,Petrol, Oil, Food, VAT, and even the Post but our income has not.its just disgraceful.

They have also increased Seaton's Parish rate by an obscene 29%!!!!! How can that be justified??? We need ANSWERS!!!

Maybe its time to abolish town and parish councils since they seem to be so out of touch with reality.

i wonder how many honourable members on the council actually pay the full amount in concil tax?
