Cumbrian theatre among Britain's top ten

Keswick's Theatre by the Lake has topped the Royal Shakespeare Company in a list of top 10 favourite small theatres in Britain.

In the selection of “favourite pint-sized playhouses around the UK” published by the Daily Mail, Theatre by the Lake features above the Swan, the smaller of the RSC’s two auditoriums in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The feature describes the setting as “stunning, slap bang in the middle of fields on the shores of Derwentwater in the Lake District” and “a world away from other theatres”.

A spokeswoman for the Theatre by the Lake said they were delighted.

“We are confident that no other theatre in the country can boast any site as spectacular as ours,” she said.

The theatre has nine productions to come this year.
