Cumbrian sisters bidding for glory in TV show Four In A Bed

Two Cockermouth sisters with a taste for “bling” have pitted their hotel against others across the UK in TV show Four in A Bed.
But the two were left slightly embarrassed by the experience after being forced to admit they didn’t know anything about the Lakes poet Wordsworth – who their hotel is named after.
Viewers will find out this afternoon whether Caroline Pocklington and Beverley Conoley will scoop first place in the Channel 4 programme which sees B&B owners from around the country open their doors to one another.
The sisters, who have run the hotel for three years, are keeping tight-lipped about the outcome and are urging everyone to watch.
On Wednesday night’s show, viewers saw the Essex girls – who run the Wordsworth Hotel – being quizzed by the other bed and breakfast owners on Cockermouth poet William Wordsworth.
But the sisters embarrassingly admitted that they knew he was a poet – but nothing more.
“We didn’t really know who he was,” said Caroline. “We knew he was a poet and he was famous but didn’t know everything about him and didn’t look up the history.”
The three couples who stayed at the Wordsworth were each put into one of the building’s “blingy” bedrooms for the night.
And the eccentric bedrooms, decorated with diamantes on the walls, fluffy lamps and four poster beds with black and red bedspreads, got a very positive response, with guests calling them “razzle dazzle”.
The only negative comments that they received about their hotel was the noise during the night from the outside air-conditioning system.
All three of the competitors said that they would definitely stay again at the Wordsworth.
At the end of the guests’ stay they mark each venue out of 10 on different sections, including breakfast, facilities and how clean the rooms were. The Wordsworth scored high in all aspects, but the sisters were given 10s across the board for their hosting skills.
“We felt brilliant about that,” said Caroline. “I went on the show to win it and my sister went on to show off the bedrooms. We were pleased all round because we’ve never done anything like this before.
“It took two weeks to film and was absolutely brilliant. Since we were on TV people have been asking us where we got our wallpaper and other things in the rooms from.”
The rooms had a drastic makeover just before the 2009 floods which swamped the town’s Main Street under feet of water.
The sisters previously ran Cap’n Sennys in Whitehaven for nine years before taking on the Cockermouth hotel. See how they do in at 5pm on Channel 4 today.
