Cumbrian mum takes on new challenge in memory of son

A mother has signed up for her next gruelling challenge to raise cash for a skate park in memory of her son who died in a tragic school bus crash.
Tracey Nicholson said that her latest feat – taking part in the Great North Run at Newcastle – will give her a focus to get through the months following the death of her 15-year-old son Kieran Goulding in 2010.
She will do the run alongside Kieran’s brother Adam.
But the main aim of her task is to raise cash for the planned Kie Park – a BMX and skate park planned for Hensingham, near Whitehaven.
Last year determined Tracey cycled 900 miles to bring in the a massive £2,613, but she said this will be a much tougher challenge as she has never taken part in any running event before.
“This will be far harder and more unnatural for me – but apparently I’m stubborn,” she said.
“I really hope people see that the park is really wanted, it’s their want that’s made me more determined to do what I can to get it.”
Tracey is currently awaiting a charity number for the planned Kie Park which she expected to come through in the next couple of weeks.
And once this is achieved, a donation page will be set up and the group will apply for funding from other organisations.
Tracey received a welcome boost to the proposed park this week when Workington-based firm Amcor presented her with £500, as part of the company’s initiative to give something back to the community.
More than £4,000 towards the park, which hopes to open in two years, has already been raised with proceeds going to create the local facility for BMXs, scooters and skate-boarders.
Earlier this year, Tracey cycled 900 miles, the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats, and raised £2,613.
