A mum of two died after being sick in her sleep following a day of drinking.
Lisa Marie Proudfoot died on July 23 last year after falling asleep on the sofa at her mother’s Thompson Street home in Carlisle.
An inquest heard that the 34-year-old had endured a troubled year after losing her long-term partner with whom she had lived in the North East.
The former Harraby School pupil moved in with her mother Jean Kenny a few months before her death.
Miss Kenny told the inquest: “I saw her on the morning of the day she died, she seemed happy.
“She was a bit tipsy when she left that morning. She came back in just after lunch and she was drunk. I argued with her because she’d been into town and spent my money.
“She looked as if she’d been on something, so I walked out and left her.”
Miss Kenny arrived home drunk later that afternoon and found her daughter asleep on the sofa. She said her memory of events was vague after drinking a bottle of vodka. She also fell asleep in the lounge.
When Susan Welsh called round in the evening, she noticed Miss Proudfoot’s lips were blue and tried to resuscitate her.
She said her friend would drink super strength lager every day but had tried to stop a few months before.
Coroner David Roberts recorded a verdict of accidental death after saying that Miss Proudfoot had been sick in her sleep and not woken. She suffocated to death after being sick.
He said normal levels of medication and traces of morphine and codeine were found in her system.
Miss Kenny described her daughter as happy-go-lucky and added: “She had been struggling with alcohol and drugs and particularly in the last year, she just deteriorated.”
