A drunken man terrified two small children by barging into their mother’s house demanding to be told something about the father he had lost contact with, a court heard.

Now Daniel Tyer, 22, who is due to become a father himself in November, is starting a 15-month prison sentence for offences including assault, affray and possessing knives.

Carlisle Crown Court heard the trouble happened because Tyer believed 24-year-old Emma Fullard knew something about his dad that he didn’t.

So he went to her house in Shoreside, Siddick, near Workington, on March 28 and went inside, still clutching a bottle of lager. Ms Fullard told him she didn’t know what he was talking about. He grabbed her by the throat until she was able to shove him out, prosecutor Dick Binstead said.

Seconds later Tyer smashed one of her windows with the bottle, so she phoned for help from her partner and his father, Christopher Irving.

Mr Irving went to Tyer’s house, also in Shoreside, where a crowd had gathered because he was making stabbing motions with two kitchen knives. Tyer threw the knives at Mr Irving and his son – missing both, but damaging a car.

Police arrested him, and next day he blamed the incident on the “extraordinarily hot day” which had “affected his state of intoxication”.

Tyer pleaded guilty to affray, common assault on Ms Fullard, causing criminal damage to her window and to the car parked outside, and carrying the two knives in a public place.
