Cumbrian man to chronicle new house build in online blog

Have you ever wanted to know how to build your own family home from scratch?
Now you can find out thanks to a man who is not only designing and building his own four-bedroom house in the village of Dearham – but giving updates on his progress with an online blog.
Daniel Sowerby, 33, will live in the house with his fiancé Faye Staniforth, 25, and their one-year-old daughter Evie.
Daniel, a building control officer with Allerdale Council, said: “Building my own home has been a lifelong dream that is on the edge of becoming reality.
“With my current home on the market and the introduction of a new family member, baby Evie, my fiancé and I feel like its time to go for it.
“I want to show that building control officers have to go through the same red tape as everyone else.
“I also want to show people how to do the job correctly from inception to completion.”
Daniel, who has lived in Dearham near Maryport for all of his life, has moved in with his parents on Main Street until the building in the village is finished.
He has been in the construction industry for all of his working life, starting out as a joiner and carpenter before becoming a building control surveyor. The foundations and drainage have been put in but there is till a long way to go.
Daniel told the News & Star: “Throughout my life I have made a lot of friends that I will be calling on to help assist in the construction to keep the cost to a minimum.”
The project has attracted interest from Sky’s Self Build TV who will start filming when they have received a schedule.
