Cumbrian man spends part of birthday in crown court dock

A man spent part of his 23rd birthday in the dock at Carlisle Crown Court where he was banned from driving.

Sean Glover, of Moorclose Road, Harrington, had just admitted aggravated vehicle taking, drink-driving, failing to stop after an accident, and two associated driving offences.

The hearing had began with Recorder Kevin Talbot telling Glover to take his hands out of his pockets as he stood in the dock.

"I'd recommend that you take your hands out of your pockets and show due regard to the judge of the court," said the Recorder.

The court heard that he committed the offences on April 5 last year, and after taking the Vauxhall Vectra without consent he was involved in a crash, damaging two other vehicles – a Skoda and a Landrover Freelander.

Glover's barrister Rod Halligan said the defendant wanted to be dealt with straight away.

But Recorder Talbot adjourned the case until February 22 so that background reports can be prepared.

He imposed an interim driving disqualification.

Glover had also admitted uninsured driving and driving otherwise than in accordance with his licence.
