Cumbrian man on blackmail and firearm charge

A Maryport man has appeared before magistrates accused of blackmail and possessing an imitation firearm.

Kyle Thomason, 23, of Main Street, Ellenborough, appeared at West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court and had his case sent to the higher court.

He is accused of blackmailing Shane Rumney between November 1 and December 12 last year and possessing an imitation handgun to threaten Mr Rumney on November 5.

Both alleged offences are too serious to be dealt with by magistrates. No pleas were entered.

Thomason was bailed on condition that he does not approach Shane or Heather Rumney.

He will appear at Carlisle Crown Court on August 11.
