Cumbrian man facing male rape charge

A Whitehaven man has appeared in court charged with the rape and sexual assault of another man.

Andrew Tew, 44, of Buttermere Avenue, entered no plea at West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Workington.

A plea and case management hearing is due to be held on April 28.

Tew was granted bail on the condition he did not contact his alleged victim.

The charges are raping a man aged 16 or over and sexual assault on a male.

Both offences are alleged to have been carried out on June 1 last year.
