Cumbrian man charged after van fire under railway bridge

A man has appeared at Carlisle Crown Court accused of failing to call the emergency services after his van got stuck and caught fire under a railway bridge.

Jonathan Paul Terry, 21, was also charged with damaging the £4,980-worth of Network Rail signalling cable which was destroyed in the fire.

Terry, of High Head Cottages, Ivegill, near Carlisle, was charged after the incident at the bridge near Great Salkeld on March 17.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was remanded on bail until mid November when he will go on trial.
