A Flimby man died after he collapsed into his bath, an inquest heard.

John Davidson, 62, of Rye Hill Road, was an engineer with ABB in Salterbeck, Workington.

He died at home on August 5, an inquest held at West Cumbria Magistrates Court was told.

Mr Davidson, who was born in Maryport, lived with his sister Sandra Davidson in the family home they grew up in.

He enjoyed making model trains and engines, spending a lot of his spare time in his workshop.

Following his usual Sunday he went for a bath just before his dinner.

But he did not come out of the bathroom and at around 5.15pm his sister found him face down in the bath.

Unable to move him from the bath, she ran to her neighbours’ house for help.

Nurse Lee Gorley and his parents spent half an hour trying to resuscitate Mr Davidson but he was pronounced dead.

David Roberts, North and West Cumbria coroner, said that it was clear that he had collapsed before he could get into the bath.

A postmortem examination showed he had died of ischaemic heart disease, meaning the blood flow to the heart was restricted.

Mr Roberts said that Mr Davidson was a smoker and his father had also died of a heart attack at a similar age. His verdict was death by natural causes.
