Thomas Richard Hayes, 45, is charged with conspiring with 57-year-old Derek Henderson to pervert the course of justice.

Hayes, owner of Hayes Garden World in Ambleside, is accused of colluding over who was driving a Porsche car when it crashed near Kendal 18 months ago.

Hayes, of Crook Road, near Kendal, and Henderson from Woodbank Terrace at Endmoor, have both pleaded not guilty at Carlisle Crown Court.

The trial is expected to last for several days.
