Cumbrian fire crews tackle large blaze involving tyres

Householders were urged to close their doors and windows as firefighters tackled a large blaze.

Three fire crews - two from Penrith and one from Shap - fought the fire, which involved about 500 tyres, at Great Strickland.

The service said the fire was releasing a lot of black smoke.

Fire crews were called to the farm yard off the C3055 just after 10.30am.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters did some damping down and then left the scene.

“They used foam and hose reel jets to put out the fire.”

Bad. We train our own nurses, why can't we employ them?

Says everything about our hospitals - our own nurses don't want to work in them
