Cumbrian borough makes it easier to pay council bills

People in Allerdale will soon be able to pay their council bills at more than 27,000 places around the UK.

The council is introducing a new payment system – by allpay Limited – in April, which means people can pay anywhere that accepts Paypoint payments.

The payment points are usually located at convenience stores, garages and post offices.

The company handles more than 50 million financial transactions each year in thousands of places up and down the country.

In Allerdale alone, there are 48 different places to pay, some of which are open outside normal working hours making it more convenient for full-time workers.

Carl Holding, Allerdale executive member for Organisational Development, said: “Straight away this new service offers residents almost four times more places to pay their bills, increasing choice and flexibility.

“As many places such as garages have extended opening hours, people could actually pay their council tax bills at 6am or 10pm.”
