£1M flood lifeline for small businesses across Cumbria

SMALL businesses across Cumbria have been handed a £1 million lifeline to help them survive the flooding crisis.
Special helplines and websites have also been set up to ensure owners in the worst-hit areas can access both money and support immediately.
Ian Haythornthwaite, executive director of resources at the Northwest Regional Development Agency revealed the package during a visit to Cockermouth today.
He said it would combine specialist business advice with small grants and loans to tackle cash flow issues.
“The NWDA has put £1 million into this initiative, which will go directly into small businesses when they need it most,” he explained.
“I know there are other packages available but this is particularly designed for businesses and we would encourage people to get in touch as soon as possible.”
The NWDA will be working closely with Cumbria Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Business Link to distribute cash and provide support to flood-affected businesses across Cumbria.

£1mn is a pittance. What's the NWDA's plan, to issue a mop & bucket to every business? That's about all a million quid will cover.
