Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a woman in Workington.
The 30-year-old woman was walking along Harrington Road on Saturday night when a man approached her near to the cemetery entrance and touched her inappropriately.
The woman ran off from the man in the direction of Annie Pitt crossroads.
Police say she was left shaken by the attack, which happened at 8.15pm, but did not suffer any injuries.
The man was white, in his late 30s to early 40s, and slightly scruffy. He had short black hair, bushy eyebrows and was wearing a scruffy green sweatshirt with New York written across the front.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police are appealing for the community’s help.”
People living in the area will be reminded of a series of sex attacks.
Sean Stephenson, 25, formerly of Charles Close in Workington, was jailed indefinitely for the rape of an 18-year-old 20 months ago.
He bludgeoned the woman with a brick before carrying out his attack on the cycle path behind Grasmere Avenue on January 21, 2010.
In 2008 there was a series of attacks on women in west Cumbria, which remain unsolved. A 16-year-old girl was subjected to a serious sex attack on Moss Bay Road and another 16-year-old was punched and dragged into an alley as she walked along Hunter Street, in Workington. And in Whitehaven, a 19-year-old woman was grabbed as she walked along New Road.
Anyone with information should contact PC Tara Rothwell on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
