David Henry Gordon, 33, had last been seen on the 6am train from Barrow to Carlisle last Thursday (August 8).

Police yesterday (Wednesday) launched an appeal to find him.

They said sightings confirmed he did not leave the train until after Workington but it was not known where he alighted - though it was believed it was before Carlisle.

When last seen, Mr Gordon, of Walney, had a tent and sleeping bag with him.

A force statement said: "Police can confirm that David Gordon returned to Walney, Barrow, safe and well yesterday."
