£5K of gifts stolen in Cumbrian Christmas raid

Police are investigating a "despicable" burglary which has spoiled Christmas for a family in Cumbria.

Criminals stole more than £5,000 worth of wrapped presents from a property on Ennerdale Road, Cleator Moor, sometime between Sunday, December 22, and 2.15pm on Christmas Eve.

The gifts taken included a limited edition bottle of Bell's whisky with a ceramic jug, cash in envelopes and a black holdall containing clothing.

A police spokeswoman said: "This despicable crime so close to Christmas has ruined the holidays for the family who have witnessed the destruction left behind by the heartless thieves."

Officers have urged anyone with any information to contact them on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
