Police want people to call them if they see this notorious troublemaker on the streets at night.

Thief Nicky Kevin Steven Hewitson, 25, has been described as a “blight” to car owners.

He was jailed last month after admitting a theft from a vehicle. When he’s released from prison on Monday he will be subject to a strict curfew.

That means he must stay in his home, at Queen Street, Maryport, between 8pm and 7am until April 2015.

His movement restrictions are dictated in a criminal anti-social behaviour order (Crasbo) which police hope will keep him out of trouble and crime rates down.

Inspector Craig Lory said: “I believe the granting of this will help us curb the criminal activity of Hewitson.

“We want to encourage members of the public to contact police if they see him out and about during the curfew times.”

Hewitson was jailed for 42 days for stealing a bottle of wine from a car in Maryport. He is being released after serving half of his sentence.

It was the help of the public which led to Hewitson being put behind bars last month.

Inspector Lory praised the “community-minded” person who reported seeing Hewitson stealing from the vehicle.

Police chased him on foot before arresting him and he appeared before magistrates days later when he admitted stealing the bottle of Yellow Tale Shiraz.

He also pleaded guilty to entering the Co-op in Maryport in contravention of an anti-social behaviour order already in force against him for previous trouble.

Magistrates sentenced him to 42 days in prison, to run concurrently and extended his original anti-social behaviour order to include a curfew.

He was already banned from all shops in the Workington and Maryport areas under the Shopwatch scheme.
