Police appeal after man spat on woman, punched her in face

Police are investigating after a man was seen to spit on a woman and punch her several times in the face.

The incident was the first of two separate assaults in west Cumbria.

On Monday at about 4pm on Gordon Street, Workington, a man and a woman were seen arguing, before the man pushed the woman, spat on her, grabbed her and punched her in the face.

Police are particularly keen to speak to a man who intervened during the incident.

And in a separate incident on John Street, Maryport, at about 4.40pm yesterday, an assault took place involving a man and a woman.

Police are asking members of the public with information about the incidents to call them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
