Council launches inquiry into Cruise West Cumbria event

Organisers of a popular car event may need to find a new home, after complaints of anti-social behaviour prompted a council investigation.
Allerdale council has confirmed it is looking into Saturday night's anniversary event, which marked the 10th anniversary of Cruise West Cumbria.
It was held on the Central car park, Workington and saw souped up cars travel from across the county to take part.
The event had been held under an agreement between the organisers and Allerdale council, with permission given that it would be run in the same way as a previous meeting last year.
However, the council has since revealed that it has received a "series of complaints" from residents in the area about issues of antisocial behaviour.
The council has since been in contact with the event organisers and is launching a full investigation.
A spokeswoman said: "Given the concerns raised by residents, it is unlikely that agreement will be given again for this type of event to be held on Central car park."

Have your say
@paulpunto2, how will one or two events a year stop younger folk driving at inappropriate speeds on rural roads?I don't think many folk are saying these events should be cancelled or banned altogether, just that those attending should show a modicum of respect. That is what this is all about at the end of the day, people not having any respect for others, the selfish attitude that leads people to think they have a right to disregard other people so they can enjoy themselves - urinating in people's doorways is a lack of respect, racing and revving cars outside people's properties at night is a lack of respect, unsafe and inappropriate driving styles in unlicensed place is a lack of respect. When people learn to grow up and show some respect they'll find more people willing to accept and help these events.
Dave so your sayin there was no racing at cruise and was in town centre but that happens most nights so to say that was because of cruise is ridiculous. Police should be cracking down on it as they knew cruise was on so should of had traffic police on. We need somewhere to meet so why not in a public place, stop tryin to force the car scene undergroud as that will just course young kiÄs out on country roads and more deaths
