Controlled explosion to take place at Cumbrian airbase

A controlled explosion will take place at RAF Spadeadam, near Brampton, today which will involve a large fireball shooting around 3,000 feet into the sky.

The explosion will take place between 10am and 2pm and will involve a fireball shooting into the sky which should be clearly visible from the A69, say police.

Cumbria police have told people not be concerned and there is no need to contact them in relation to this event.
