Margaret Huddart, known as Peggy, was last seen on Wednesday morning in the Cockermouth area - where she lives.

The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon after it emerged that she had not been seen since.

Mrs Huddart has lived in Cockermouth all her life but is also known to visit Allonby.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Police said: "It is unknown what she was wearing at the time of her disappearance or the reason for her disappearance, which is out of character."

She is described as being about 5ft 2ins to 5ft 3ins tall, slim build, with a slight stoop and straight white hair.

Anyone with information about Mrs Huddart's whereabouts or who has seen her in the past three days is urged to call police on 101.
