There'll be celebrations all round in the Armstrong household after mum Yvonne picked up £1,000 in a News & Star competition.
Yvonne, 48, of Laversdale Lane End near Brampton, is splitting her winnings with her mum Dorothy Bell and will spend her share on treating her family.
Yvonne, who works at Armstrong Watson accountants at Rosehill, Carlisle, won her prize in the News & Star’s giveaway token collect promotion.
Delighted Yvonne, who buys the News & Star each day, said she had Dorothy to thank for her prize.
She said: “Mam lives near me and she reminded me to fill in the coupon. That’s why I am sharing my winnings with her.
“I couldn’t believe it when my husband Maurice texted me to say there had been a phone call to say I had won.
“Maurice cooked us pork loin and black pudding last night to celebrate.”
The couple have two children – Melissa, 23, a student at Leeds University and 21-year-old Chris an electrician in Carlisle.
Chris has a two-year-old daughter Lilly.
Yvonne is a life-long reader of the News & Star, having picked up the habit from her late father, Cyril.
“Dad used to buy two copies of the News & Star – one for him and mam and one for me and Maurice,” she said.
“Now I’ve taken over from him. I buy one for us and another for mam.”
Yvonne plans to spend her winnings on treating the whole family.
She said: “We’ll do something with the family when Melissa comes home. We’re all very close so it will be good to celebrate together.”
Success has given Yvonne a taste for more – and now she’s already collecting coupons from this week’s News & Star Super September competition (see below) to try and win another £1,000.
She will also try her hand next week at winning £250 each day our paper.
