Coffee firm Caffe Nero to open branch in Carlisle
Last updated at 10:29, Saturday, 31 July 2010
Italian coffee company Caffe Nero is opening a branch in Carlisle.
The chain is opening in the city’s House of Fraser department store, which is currently undergoing a £1m revamp.
Work on the English Street store is almost complete with menswear, cosmetics and shoes now occupying the ground floor, womenswear on the first floor and homeware on the top floor.
The revamp has meant a whole host of new labels coming to Carlisle including for women Mango, Desigual, Office, Pied a Terre, Yumi, Kookai, Kenneth Cole, Mint Velvet, Label Lab and Superdry.
New brands for men include Umbro, Penguin, Boxfresh and Selected Homme.
Caffe Nero will be opening by the front door and a new entrance has been created. Customers will be able to sit in the window area.
The coffee shop is looking for staff.
Original oak flooring was uncovered when workmen ripped up the carpet to begin the transformation.
Workmen also discovered a security door on the first floor which has detail dating back to 1924.
Brian Robertson, manager of House of Fraser, said: “This is a really exciting development for both House of Fraser and retail in Carlisle city centre.”
