Posters are to go up around Stanwix in Carlisle to promote a community campaign to tidy up the area.

30 posters will be displayed around Stanwix

The Big Tidy Up takes place this weekend and everyone has been getting involved – including the children at Stanwix Primary School.

A total of 242 pupils from across the school have entered a poster competition, which was judged by Mayor David Wilson yesterday, and the posters are going up around restaurants and businesses in the area.

They aim to promote the Big Tidy Up – an annual campaign which will see scores of volunteers gather together with a mass litter pick on Saturday followed by patrols targeting dog fouling and littering hotspots.

The Tidy Up has been organised by councillor Paul Nedved who said the Tidy Ups were becoming firm fixtures on the Stanwix calendar and were well supported by the community.

He said the pupils were keen to get involved and the poster campaign had been very popular.

Mr Nedved said today that they were still to confirm who the winners were.

“About 30 of the posters will be given to shops and businesses in Stanwix to display,” he said.

“It helps raise the profile of the Tidy Up and the pupils can see their work going up in the community.”

The Tidy Up litter pick will take place on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Posters will also be displayed in the Civic Centre from Monday until next Friday.
