More than 100 pupils from the Richard Rose Central Academy (RRCA) in Carlisle are staging a dance event next week.
Children from local primary schools will be the first to enjoy Dance Factor 3 next Wednesday afternoon, ahead of two public performances.
Youngsters from Norman Street Primary, Inglewood Infants and Juniors, Bishop Harvey Goodwin and Petteril Bank schools will see next Wednesday’s performance at RRCA’s theatre in Harraby.
The event has been directed by RRCA dance leader Wendy Boothman. It features a series of street dance pieces as well as classical music theatre routines.
Sixth formers, who have been working with the primary schools since September, will stage some of their work.
Other dancers at the academy will also show the work they have been doing, running performing clubs for younger pupils during lunch breaks.
Dance is a popular subject at RRCA. There are 93 BTEC dance students and 18 studying dance at AS and A-level studies.
The older students will also be assessed for their performances, choreography and production skills during Dance Factor 3.
Mrs Boothman said: “We have a dance company within school, DanceCo, and all dancers are members.
“Our students demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment not only in lesson but also at breaks and, lunchtimes and after school.
“We had excellent results in dance last year with a 100 per cent pass rate and five pupils gaining A* and a further seven gaining A grades at GCSE. Boys as well as girls will feature in the show. Nine boys are doing BTEC Dance and there are nine on AS and A-level courses.”
Tickets for next Wednesday and Thursday’s 7pm public performances are available through participating schools, priced £5 or £3 concessions.
