A woman kept an iPod delivered to her instead of a man with the same surname.

Kim Armstrong, 55, of Dowbeck Road, Morton, Carlisle, received the parcel after calling the delivery company UPS to report her own parcel hadn’t arrived.

City magistrates heard how a Mr Armstrong from west Cumbria had ordered the iPod but it was sent to the Carlisle address instead on October 24.

Prosecutor Pam Ward said there had been a mix-up with the addresses by the company and Armstrong kept the parcel.

She was interviewed by police and admitted the theft by finding, saying she had been very depressed and didn’t bother to do anything about the parcel. The iPod was handed unopened to police.

Armstrong was given a one-year community order and told to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
