Carlisle teenager fined £75 for stealing £2.81 of sweets

A TEENAGER has been fined £75 after stealing sweets from Wilkinson’s store.

Ashley Michael Symes, 18, of Blackwell Road, told district judge Gerald Chalk that he was living in a homeless hostel when he committed the offence on June 6 last year.

The court heard how he was seen taking some pinball sweets. a Lion bar, a chunky Kit Kat and Werther’s Originals, totalling £2.81. A security guard spotted Symes put the sweets in his pocket and walk out.

Symes said he had since found work and was back living with his mother.

He was fined £75, ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
