Carlisle road closures to allow repairs to go-ahead
Last updated at 11:37, Monday, 17 September 2012
Resurfacing work starts on a string of Carlisle city centre roads tonight.
The first phase will be from Eden Bridge on the approach to Hardwicke Circus, heading eastbound to Georgian Way and then to the traffic lights on Victoria Place.
A Cumbria County council spokesman said: “Works will be carried out involving lane closures, with road closures being enforced in order to resurface Dukes Road and New Market Road junctions. A road closure will also be enforced at Georgian Way/Victoria Place junction.
“These roads will not be closed at the same time and suitable diversion routes will be signed.”
From Wednesday until Friday, there will be resurfacing on Nelson Bridge from the junction of Denton Street and Charlotte Street, stretching to the junction with Viaduct Estate Road, Victoria Viaduct, and James Street.
Road closures will be enforced at night at the Denton Street and Viaduct Estate Road junctions. Traffic lights will maintain through traffic to and from Charlotte Street, Victoria Viaduct and James Street.
A road closure will also be enforced at the Nelson Bridge junction to James Street for a short time.
