Carlisle restaurant boss denies harassing witness

A Carlisle restaurant manager has appeared at the city's Crown Court accused of threatening a woman involved in the prosecution of his brother.

Ata Miah, 42, was accused of speaking to the woman, threatening her and following her last September, knowing that she was a witness in court proceedings.

He pleaded not guilty to the single charge of putting the woman in fear of violence by harassment.

Miah, of Mallyclose Drive, Harraby, Carlisle, was remanded on bail on condition that he does not contact his alleged victim.

He will go on trial in the first week of June.
