Carlisle mum died just before getting treatment she needed

A mother who had fought a long battle with alcohol died just as she was about to get the treatment she needed.

Mum of one Marian Teasdale died on Monday, June 18 last year, aged 48. She had lived at Silverdale Road, Harraby, Carlisle.

An inquest into her death heard that she had been a regular and heavy drinker since she was a teenager.

As a result of her drinking, she suffered from liver problems and had difficulty walking.

She also had lung diseases and had had mental health problems.

As a result, she had frequently had medical attention.

The court heard that she had moderated her drinking shortly before her death, and was due to attend a detox programme.

On the morning of Saturday, June 16 though she collapsed.

Her partner, Andrew Sharkey, called an ambulance.

Ms Teasdale was taken to The Cumberland Infirmary’s intensive care unit. However, she died two days later.

A post-mortem said the causes of her death were lung problems and internal bleeding. A toxicology report also showed there had been a large amount of alcohol in her blood.

Robert Chapman, assistant coroner for north and west Cumbria, told the friends and family attending: “It is obviously clear that you loved her, and you miss her. I am sorry to have to put you through this.”

He then said the problems Ms Teasdale had suffered had been caused or affected by her heavy use of alcohol.

Mr Chapman recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
