Carlisle mother faces child cruelty charge

A young Carlisle mum has appeared before a judge charged with cruelty through neglect of her child.

At the city’s crown court, she denied the allegation and a second alternative charge of being drunk while in charge of the same child.

Neither the woman nor her child can be named for legal reasons.

The woman was given conditional bail, stipulating she can have contact with her child only under the supervision of Social Services.

The trial was adjourned to November 10.
